Best Practices in Online Course Delivery (Module 3) – Class Interaction
Course Description:
This course is one module of a four-module series that focuses on more advanced practices in the delivery of online courses. The BP500 series is designed to enhance cooperative, collaborative, active, and experiential learning and to give participants the tools to develop course and teaching resources applicable to their discipline.
This module, BP5000M03: Class Interaction, focuses on how instructors can establish their presence within the online classroom. Participants will evaluate how instructors can shape responses and interactions to foster community in the online setting. To this end, discussion will deal with proper netiquette, elements of community, and principles of group dynamics. Upon successful completion of this module, participants will receive a Best Practices in Online Course Delivery: Class Interaction certificate.
Course Objectives
- Explain community of inquiry (CoI) as a model for balancing social, cognitive, and teaching presences in the online classroom.
- Discuss elements of community and how variations influence interaction.
- Describe how principles of group dynamics can influence online learning communities.
- Evaluate students’ discussion forum responses according to their alignment to learning objectives.
- Provide appropriate guidance within discussion forums to foster deeper and purposeful reflection.
