Course Description:

All faculty want their students to feel both engaged and motivated to succeed. This course seeks to explore how motivation affects learning, focusing on the essential components of it to equip participants with strategies and tools that can help them foster motivation and engagement in their students. To this end,this course acknowledges that motivation and engagement online can seem unfathomable. With this in mind, the course aims to ensure that participants are equipped with the tools and knowledge they need to overcome any such anxieties. By the course’s conclusion, participants should feel both encouraged and confident in their abilities to engage and motivate students in the online classroom.

This course seeks to soothe those anxieties by instilling in participants empathy for the student experience and empowerment that their courses and instruction can be made accessible. To this end, the course addresses the following topics:

Course Objectives:

  • Describe how motivation affects learning.
  • Define value and expectancy.
  • Enhance students’ perceptions of value and expectancy in their online course. 
  • Differentiate between the types of interaction in an online course.
  •  Identify strategies for engaging students in their online course.

About this course:

  • From start to finish, module may take up to 3 hours to complete.
  • Fully self-paced. Start and stop as you wish.
  • LMS agnostic design strategies.
  • Complete all or just some of the sections based on your course design experience.
  • Receive a certificate of completion if all activities are completed.
